I just want you to fight for it: A Stefan/Elena versus Damon/Stefan meta

Aug 22, 2011 15:03

Recently I have seen this take in fandom that Stefan ~selling his soul for Damon in ‘As I Lay Dying’ is proof that Stefan loves his brother more than he loves Elena. As in, Stefan was willing to do anything to save his brother versus his perceived passivity when it came to “saving” Elena from Klaus. And I just can’t get onboard with this theory? ( Read more... )

the vampire diaries, stefan/elena, stefan is the best vampire boyfriend, the vampire diaries: meta, the vampire diaries: too many feelings

Great essay, and omg that gif! <333 So cute. You will make me a full-fledged S/E shipper yet...

THIS IS MY GOAL IN LIFE. TO TURN EVERYONE INTO SECRET STEFAN/ELENA SHIPPERS. \o/

TBH, since as even you say S/E wasn't the best in the very beginning, Stefan/Damon was the first interesting relationship on the show that I really latched onto and became invested in, and one of my biggest complaints about s2 is that apart from some truly excellent moments (esp earlier on in the season), they really dropped the ball on their relationship for a long period of time, until the very end when they were so beautiful....

lol yes, we lost a lot this season in favour of showing Damon's constant, unending manpain. I do think Stefan and Damon evolved in some interesting ways - they start working together again, they banded together in their love for Elena (Elena = unifying force versus Katherine's destructive force). But I almost loved them more when they were fighting over the best way of protecting Elena in the second half of the season. More interesting that way.:p I also think we slowly got to see them moving towards dealing with Stefan's choice to turn Damon into a vampire all those years ago. Stefan apologized! And in the finale, Damon told Elena to tell Stefan it wasn't his fault! Maybe they should lock each other in a house for 24 hours to discuss all their feelings. :p

And that is also why this love triangle works better for me than pretty much any other one (but esp the mess on TB)--because the two boys vying for the girl DO love each other and have their own messed up and complicated and interesting relationship, and Elena (being Nina Dobrev) has the potential (when the writers aren't being blech) to have great chemistry and an interesting dynamic with both boys...

YESSS! They're all banded to each other and no matter who Elena "chooses," the other brother will still be in their lives (well, maybe. I could see Stefan just living town if Delena got together tbh.) And even if Elena WANTED to cut Damon completely out of her life, she can't because he comes with Stefan and to love Stefan means accepting Damon in some form as part of the family. IT IS SO MESSED UP BUT BEAUTIFUL IN ITS OWN WAY. Kevin Williamson has that great quote about how there are so many different kinds of love among the three of them - as lovers, friends, brothers, etc.

Also, if you love the brotherly relationship in this show you should check out SPN sometime and the "other" D&S older/younger messily co-dependent brother duo on the CW, lol! ;) (It was even better when they aired back to back on Thursday nights, lol)

I watch Supernatural! And I love Dean. :p I don't love the show quite like I love TVD though. Not enough ladies.

Heh, well I always liked S/E well enough, but just liked D/E more (because I thought they had more fire, chemistry, made me feel more excited) in the end of s1, though then the writers really screwed up in s1 with Damon especially...:/

Oh my bad, I thought that you had said once you should start watching it, or maybe I'm confusing you with someone else...so you are current on all the seasons then? Yeah, I can understand that, I do wish there were more women on the show, but I understand it's the genre/not the focus since it's all about the brothers at heart...I do love all the parallels with D&S on TVD though, especially when Sam is indirectly responsible for Dean temporarily turning into a vamp that one epp! :p Or how they both use the panic rooms so often when their brothers are dealing with blood addicitons (in the case of younger S bros) or suicidal tendencies (D) respectively...I think it'd be hilarious to see them meet...
