Jack Layton, Canada's Opposition Leader,
died today from cancer at 4:45 am at age 61. In an era of increasing cynicism and apathy when it comes to politics, Jack Layton somehow managed to break through all that and rejuvenate the left on a message of optimism. I think he was someone that, no matter their politics, people couldn't help but admire and respect and even like.
This is almost overpoweringly sad. Only a few short months ago, the future had never been so bright for him and his party and now he will never see what the NDP could do with being the Official Opposition. Sad, sad day for Canada.
