So was helping the kidlet with homework last night and kept looking for all the rest of it. I remember being a kid and having oodles of homework. Reading assignments, stories, writing, math problems and so on. Well her homework last night was.....wait for it....about 30 two & three column 'addition' problems, a word search (in which she only needed to find 12 of 30 words) and a cross word puzzle!!! Really??? This is third grade right, not something else?
I'm hoping that this is still, 'a well school is only starting so we are getting into the swing of things'. But since the teacher told us at back to school night that she would be more than happy to make homework easier if our kids had any problems, I don't have high hopes. Besides school has been going on for a month already. Parent-teacher conferences are in like two weeks the holidays are just around the corner so then there will be all new excuses.
I know one of the things the teacher brought up was that there were a lot of new programs and testing to be done. Which is great but a month? And what does that have to do with actually stretching out homework to make it challenging or at least useful?
Curious to see what parent teacher conferences will be like!
