Start on a high note or end on it?  Hmm, I'm very much in the 'save the best for last' camp, so...

ARGH what a frustrating morning.  Woke up with my neck hurting more than usual, yay.  Had someone on Miiverse nag me about spoiler tags on a post that wasn't really a spoiler.  Forgot several things.  Went biking anyway with very sore spots, came back and made a promised chocolate cake, still with lots of sore spots.

There was barely enough cocoa left.  Barely enough baking soda.  NOT enough (any) white flour.  Not enough oil.  (Turns out there was more in the back room, but it had been stored in a different position than last time.)  Lots of whole wheat since others bought two huge bags of it last week (but NO white flour, which we were probably already all out of at that time), but made due with 'atta' flour which is smoother and figured it would be closer to white than whole wheat is.

Once the batter was formed, noticed that the atta was becoming rather stale (from the taste of the batter, which was a bit off).  It absorbed a lot more water too, so the batter was too thick.  Went to pour it into the pan to find that we had no parchment paper left, either...just freezer paper and waxed paper, neither of which can be cooked with.  Had to do something else that I really shouldn't have done (this cake has to be able to be turned out of the pan to be sliced in half once it's cooled.)

No idea if this cake will come out edible.  It isn't rising quite as high.  It smells good but the taste may be something else.

But my neck doesn't hurt too much at the moment and XSEED has unveiled their Cold Steel II official website, full of great info, and to my surprise, they had translated the previously Japanese-only 'extra' episode that was left out of the English options.

So it's not ALL bad.  If the cake turns out okay after all it can be largely recovered.

EDIT: Nope, can't be saved.
