So yesterday was my last day. It was one of those up and down kinda days. I was in a funk all morning for some reason and pretty much just stayed in bed vegging out. It was raining and cold so I just didnt feel like doing anything until I had to go to work. I had the morning off from class because they were using the restaurant for a going away party for one of the instructors. So I was taking full advantage of my morning off. So anyway, I get to work and start putting away the dishes and every few mins someone would come through the kitchen and say how much they are going to miss me and ask me about my plans. So one min I would be kinda sad and then then next I would be excited because I'm talking about going to disney.
Then at dinner the kids were all saying how much they were going to miss me and the younger ones didn't understand why I had to leave so I was trying to explain to them but I don't think they quite got it. As I was clearing the tables, Kyle came out with a cake that Rita had made for me, and they sang their "god bless you" song for me and they gave me a card that they all signed. It was so sweet, I cried a little as I looked around the room at all of their faces. Then the sisters insisted that I sit with them and have some cake and ice cream and open my card. They had gone out of their way to get me a gift certificate to old navy as a going away gift. I was really touched, because they don't have a lot of extra cash lying around and for them to do that for me was really nice of them.
After my shift I went and said goodbye to everyone and they all wished me luck and said to keep in touch and come visit when I get back which I will definitely do. I didn't think I would miss that place so much. It's only the second time I have ever been emotional about leaving a job. They really made me feel appreciated there. Even though I was just doing dishes and serving dinner, with a little bit of cooking, it's been one of, if not, my favorite job ever. It makes me realize that I did make the right chose in changing careers. When my job can make other people's lives a little bit more enjoyable, then its the right choice for me.
I definitely plan on going to visit when I get back from Disney. Once I find a full time job and figure out my schedule I am going to try to plan at least one day a week to go spend time with the kids.
