Somehow I am always shocked to hear that the black sand beach in Hawaii doesn't exist anymore. I was there when I was 4 years old, barely old enough to even remember. I remember the bikini my mom wore, I remember that she didn't let me go in the ocean, I remember we took home little vials of black sand and that I poured mine out when we got home and my mom got pissed.
I like stupid click-lists, like buzzfeed shit. I like the ones that talk about natural wonders that have been destroyed by nature, not humans. They talk about the black sand beach a lot, and how it was destroyed by an eruption in 1990. I was there in 1989.
Now I'm also pissed at me for not still having that little vial of black sand.
And now I have an irrational fear of visiting volcanoes...The Arenal volcano also had a huge explosion just one year after I visited. Remind me to be very careful about visiting Mt Rainier.
