Alaska Is Burning

It's been an exciting Spring/Summer so far.  We've had record-highs and very little rain, which led to huge amounts of dust, record pollen counts and now three massive wildfires.  Needless to say, the air quality is for shit.  I've been having to use my inhaler regularly for the first time in almost 10 years.

Our plants are soooo happy though!  All three blueberries survived being transplanted to the rhubarb cafe (as we call the planter box in the front yard) and the rhubarb is thriving.  It's actually trying to flower, which I have never seen before.  I did some poking around on the internets to figure out why, and learned the probable causes is that our little shrub has hit puberty or it is stressed by all the warm weather.  Reports vary on if we should enjoy the pretty blossoms or OMG!  Get 'em off! Get 'em off now!!"

I almost skipped derby last night because of the air quality.  I'm so glad I didn't because, at the start of practice, I was the only ref there! 0.0   Of course, no scrimmage could be had under those circumstances, so Prof. Dean decided they should have a strategy-focused practice and I should watch for no-packs and blocking out of play.  What am I worst at, my Ducklings and Swans? >.<

Thankfully Wookie showed up and she took back pack ref while I blundered through front pack ref.  I actually made a couple calls and got a better sense of pack definition.  Plus, I discovered I'm getting more confidence rolling backwards!  I'm not skating yet, but I'm getting the flow of the roll.

lonelydumptruck and I are toying with joining
MonkOfSilence and
PoisonDartFrog at a music festival to get out of town, but the ghost town of a holiday weekend can be fun too, so we might catch up on housework and gardening instead.  Tonight will likely be drinks with Lori-O, perhaps I shall introduce her and Lonelydumptruck to Killjoy...
