Busy few weeks this March has been. I'll tell about each important briefly since I don't want to later return to this and make it a massive entry with some useless information. Anyway...here goes nothing.
My final Spring Break surprisingly was very interesting. I went over my Aunt Lolo's house one morning to get pictures of her dogs. Sedona posed the best out of all of them. Jackie wouldn't stay still even for a minute. Terry was just as tough to do but one entire row of her pictures came out very sharp so I was happy to find that out when I developed them. Unfortunately, Papa Leo and his new dog, Oliver, didn't come out so hot. I overexposed those two shots I took of them. Naomi was going to see a movie with my family and I but she had to cancel due to work and a long appointment at MGH but my family and I ended up seeing Shutter Island. That movie was incredible! Some parts were disturbing to but see it anyway. I hungout with my cousin Greg twice, gave him a flash drive of full Dave Matthews Band shows both SBD and Aud recordings. First and only spring break where I never called Emily at her house. It seemed like tradition the last few years so I feel like I sorta missed out. Otherwise, very promising week!
In class we are learning about lighting now. When I saw what I have to do I realized we are doing what the professional photographers did when they came to the school and took our class pictures or student photos. I even now have to work with reflectors and deflectors which are these huge circle shaped objects that minimize or emphasize the lighting before you take the photo. I also have become more acclimated with the printing machine in the darkroom. It's amazing what a little add contrast and a decreased time can do to a photograph. I just really love going there and playing around with different things in the darkroom. It's been funny this past week because George and I have been in the darkroom almost everyday making prints. I gave him one of my aunts dog Terry because he thought it looked amazing. I actually had to burn that one two times but I was able to make a copy with burning for myself and for him. On my way out on Thursday I needed to use the bathroom and when I walk in George is there. He went "What is this!" haha. It is funny how he has comeback into my life after a year of being out of it. He's a funny kid though and I enjoy being friends with him.
Yesterday, my family and I went to the MFA to see this photograph what my teacher wanted me to see for my class. The guy who took it died awhile but to actually see the photograph I got a sense he did something that might never be done again. The photo was of a tree with both sides blacked out and the only light portion was the middle. There were also some photographs with double prints meaning when you are printing you put another photograph over it to make it look cooler. My family and I saw a Picasso painting as well along with another painting of a Buddha though done in different shapes. We last checked out the exhibit on Ancient Egypt that is on display until May. It turns out in 1915, when the objects were found, the Egyptian Government allowed the MFA to keep a half portion of almost all that was found. 4,000 years later they were finally put on display, from the coffin to the head of the unknown mummy(they don't know whether it is the wife or the governor himself) to the figures of daily life in Egypt he/she was buried with. We weren't able to take pictures of those since the museum interferes with the digital cameras. It was a really special exhibit to see so check it out if you can! The last thing we saw was paintings that were made during the Revolutionary War. The eyes in most of them freaked my mom out because they really do feel like you are being watched right at that moment by those people in the paintings. Great morning in Boston!
To end on a very happy note I finally talked to Emily again this last week. I haven't heard from her since before her birthday. She asked me how I was doing in photography so I told her mostly of the new lighting stuff. I love how she says coolski through the facebook chat. We only talked very briefly since her mom needed to use the computer. I wished it was a little longer since I would have been able to ask her one of my important questions to her what I have waited almost a year to ask. Before our conversation ended that night she did partially answer one since she put a smiley face through the chat when were saying goodbye. She did it in 2007 in an email and another time through AIM in 2008. Maybe these last two years have really made our friendship stronger and the long four years apart. If I still make her happy then maybe we will finally start seeing each other more. To tell you the truth it wasn't until a year or two after college started that I realized she made me very happy to. I'm hoping next weekend she and I will be able to hangout together! I notice lately she has been hanging with people who aren't even close to her so hopefully she'll get to me next. It really is a redemption year for the two of us.
