"I gave The Ring to the wasteland as its home, to the hobbit as its salt flats."
Bolg 39:6
For all you out there, that is an honest bastardization of an honest bible quote.
BECAUSE.
I spent the day drowning in music.
NOT. MY. CHOICE.
Ok, it *was* my choice only because
I choose to be a DJ.
WORTH IT.
But, sometimes it gets crazy
trying to feed music
into my lifestyle.
Books, music, movies...
I rarely go out of my way
to get ANYTHING.
I let it all
come to me.
And. It. Will.
It always will.
I'm fascinated by what 'scenes' can produce.
I keep tabs on the regional 'music scene'
and even for a relatively small population,
the amount of original music being produced every week
by this city is ENORMOUS.
I think of how by making the regional indie scene
my musical focus,
I easily found bands, found albums, found music
that handily beats out major label stuff
in quality, artistry, creativity, etc.
How I found that some of my all-time favorite bands
actually live down the street
in my small city.
This isn't LA.
This isn't NY.
This isn't San Francisco or Chicago or New Orleans.
Not Miami or Austin or Philadelphia.
I do listen to Seattle, Portland... and they help.
Mainly, they help musicians find EACH OTHER.
I AM that asshole that says,
"My favorite band?
You wouldn't know 'em,
but GODDAMNED I wish you did."

Just.... felt like sharing.
The thing about being a music lover,
is you can't just dabble in listening to some music.
Once you start hanging out online listening to music,
there is more and MORE and MORE
and it is impossible to stop.
Sailor once had a $15 gift certificate to a local record store.
I was literally like,
"Don't you DARE lead me into a record store
and say 'Just buy one CD'.
It might kill me."
I've also never walked into a bookstore
and walked out with a single book.
NEVER HAPPENED.
Not even once.
There is too much out there to experience,
5 minutes, I have found 5 things I want to try.
EASY.
What's it like for you?
