Maybe the restaurant was understaffed, and it wasn't your server's fault they didn't get to you in time. Maybe no one told them you were there. Those things do happen, a lot. Especially on busy nights. Four tables of two people each can keep a server busy, much less seven or eight at a time.
The speed of food is definitely not the server's fault. Sometimes the cooks are slow and take forever to make food.
It is especially notable that the reason a place might be reluctant to fill all the tables is because its cook staff cannot handle that many orders. Sometimes the cooks forget part of an order and the rest of the food gets cold waiting for it. Sometimes a server just can't run it right away.
You are a mean person. Be nice to servers, they work hard. Unless you saw your server sitting around when they knew you were waiting, don't assume they were being negligent.

I've had more than enough jobs where I am working at top speed, handling hundreds of customers a day, doing my job efficiently, on-time, no matter how busy it is... and I have yet to get a customer tip. Even in a 'normally tipping' job because my company didn't allow it

And, just pointing out that in all those other jobs, you got paid hourly a decent rate. Servers generally deserve a tip because they get 3 dollars an hour for an incredibly demanding job.
But eh. If you thought your server was slackin', that's them.

They get paid BELOW federal minimum wage of 5.50/hr?
I think it should be customary to tip good service in EVERY job sector... especially those who get paid minimum wage. But there are SO many hard workers out there that dont get tips just because they work retail, fast food, phone work or hospitality...
The server sucked. No tip for him. Believe me, Im usually happy to tip the usual 15-25% for someone who just... does their job.
if a waitress or server ever feels like they are over worked and under paid then they should learn to fucking type. if tips is all they get, then they should work like it is all they get. regaurdless of the race of the coustomer.
You're not supposed to tip fast food workers, and those are people that are running cashier, taking order, and cooking the food, all at minimum wage and all in under 5 minutes, but tips at a "restuarant" is obligatory, even if its a shithole like Denny's or Shari's, no matter how bad the food or service are... why? And how come you dont tip the cook, when the food is good, or the host when the drinks are good or you are seated fast? Why only the waiter/tress? And why are you supposed to tip big when they do well, and just tip less, rather than nothing, when they do bad

damn straight. how much holy hell would be raised if a McDonald's worker put a tip jar beside there cash register? if i am staying multiple nights in a hotel i will tip big on the first night and moderate the rest of the time. wait staff are supposed to tip out (give money to) the hostess and bartender the ones that do are treated accordingly the ones that don't are as well. kitchen staff normally make more than floor staff. however if your waitress is always kind to the kitchen the kitchen is kind back.
Nah, McDonalds wouldn't take that shit... they'd crush the tip jar in their mighty corporate hand, and then take the infidel behind the garbage to be shot in the head.
