I just excitedly booked a trip to Salt Lake City, Utah.
Who knew?
I've got a long list of places I want to go,
Utah doesn't generally come up
when talkin' about
if wishes
were fishes
yadda yadda.
But it's all about the company
and my older brother is meeting me there -
it's always a trip
literally and figuratively
to see him.
We get along famously,
but
see each other rarely.
For Sailor's birthday
we're driving inland
to a carving show in Montana.
I haven't done that drive as an adult, yet
but I remember it being a beautiful one.
From Kellogg, Idaho, through the Rockies,
landing ourselves near Paradise Valley
but passing it by
and heading toward Missoula
instead.
In June I'll go camping with The Ladies
(my friend Tiffany organizes this one)
for a weekend at the the edge of a huge 120 mile long freshwater lake
in the desert near here
with a bunch of the happiest
and well-equipped for campin' ladies
I've ever met!
.
July will start out with a week
in Utah and Nevada.
He's taking over a new base
and I'm a yokel seeing a new place.
He loves to drive listening to music,
I love to DJ in cars
(captive audiences)
and he even lets me.
I don't know what else we'll do,
but we'll no doubt figure it out.
I'm also running a community concert,
coordinating a two-week video production window,
tabling two events,
and producing a music video competition
(and recording several podcasts)
that same month!
But what the hell?
Summer is for living!
Let's get things done!
Tomorrow,
a friend and I are driving 75 miles
to a beautiful mountain town
where our friends are in a small-town play.
My mom will meet us for lunch, hopefully.
She's an hour further North.
She has informed me
that her Senior Center has undergone a hostile takeover
from a group of "Church-Minded" women
looking to turn the place into a ready-made congregation
and she is organizing
a protest against this injustice
(which sounds normal
until she asked if she should alert the FBI
and I advise that might be a bit of an
overreaching solution)
and I have to remember
its an even longer colder darker winter
up where she is on her rural, off-grid mountaintop.
There's...
just a lot sometimes.
But what are you going to do?
Go to lunch.
See loved ones.
Smile.
Laugh.
And check in that
you're still breathing
and the world is still spinning.
For now.
love,
family,
travels,
trips,
summer
