Corporation Thought Process

Feb 12, 2013 12:37

A co-worker requested this Friday off well over 2 weeks ago. Today, after a
reminder to our Manager, she was asked if this time off would affect her
work flow. Understandable question, but at the same time, had Manager
bothered to get to know her employees, she would know that Co-worker would
request a personal day off if it would interfere with her work flow. She,
being the woman she is, informed Manager of this. Manager's response?
"Please understand that the question was not a condescending question, but
rather one that must be asked, as our client is our number one priority."

Wrong. See, my number one priority, as a processor, is to make sure that my
work goes out to the client as expected with the highest quality of work,
thus, my priority is to our client. Manager's priority should be to the
processor. If the employee is not taken care of the work that goes back to
our clients will show it. Thus my priority is to the client, and Manager's
priority should be to the processor.

Alas, I fear that this corporation is taking a turn in a sour direction
where they have started to think less about their employees and more about
their clients satisfaction. With time they will wonder why the quality of
work has dropped and they will blame the processors and let them go, hire
new ones, who will work great for a spell, and then they too will become
disillusioned, as the companies priorities are not to ensure that their
processors, their bread-and-butter, are doing well, but rather that their
clients are happy.

Already a manager has resigned who has been here for almost 20 years.

It is important that our clients are satisfied with our work, it is my job
as a processor that I ensure my work is up to par, if not above and beyond
expectations. It is the responsibility of those above me to ensure that I
am given the tools needed to work consistently at that level.

12/26/2012 I put in a request for 2 weeks off in May 2013. I have since
sent 2 reminder emails and finally submitted the request into e-Time. It is
now 2/12/2013 and I have yet hear anything from Manager. Not even a
response that my request is being reviewed.

Manager is afraid to have anyone on our team gone for too long. After all,
there are only 2 of us and no one else knows how to do our job. Yes, that's
right, NO one else KNOWS how to do our job. Not even Supervisor. Fun times.
Great way to run a department.

Ah, but the whole point here is that I think Manager has her priorities a
bit screwy. Will corporations ever learn that their most important asset is
their employees and that the only way to truly succeed is to ensure that we
are well taken care of? It should be noted that we are all adults here.
Treating us like children only makes us recent those we work for.
