SO MUCH WORK

Sooo I have FINALLY finished the Star Wars cake. I have been building the pieces for this ALL WEEK. I'm so glad to finally call it finished!! There were so many firsts for me that went into making this cake!

The first time I've made fondant figures... they're ehhh... not perfect, but you know what? They're my first! Luke is really wide and Leia is really eh... busty... these were my first elaborate buttercream transfers! Han Solo was a VERY important part of the cake. So, it was important I not screw that up... I think it came out pretty well. R2D2 came out pretty cute and C3PO was alright, but Yoda came out really cool.

My frosting wasn't hella smooth as it could be... but it was REALLY HARD to have one color on top and another on the sides. I've never done that before either. I ended up with some blue frosting in my orange frosting, but it happens. I never really had a clear plan on how the heck I was going to pull that off, so I guess, all things considered, it could have been worse.

I was going to pipe the edges with big fat shells, to distract from some of the mistakes, but I didn't have much frosting left and to my dismay, when I looked in the cupboard, I was out of powdered sugar!!! Me?? Tiffany Whitten... out of powdered sugar? No way! Alas, it was true... so a smaller boarder it had to be... I wasn't about to go out to the store at 11pm on the night of the big show at Riverscape only 30 minutes after the fireworks had ended. So I made do with what I had. I was able to cover a myriad of mistakes just with that simple boarder and the lighter blue really popped against the other colors!

I was really happy with the top because I rolled out just a bit of fondant and cut the letters out of the blue, then filled those holes with letters I'd cut out of purple and fit it all together... I thought the fondant gave it a great finished look!

Evidently yellow is NOT a correct color for a light saber? Guess what? I don't even care lol. I didn't have a lot of red fondant and I had made a lot of yellow for some reason. It's hard to get it red (and not pink) so I only made a small bit of red.

My teeth feel SO gross right now because I ate a bunch of buttercream icing...

I've done a lot of random capitalization tonight. I don't think I usually do that. Ah well feeling lazy.

Next cake? I think I'm doing a Tropical theme birthday cake for a little girl's birthday. We'll see. I haven't commit to it just yet. It's for the country singer that Brian is producing the album for. She was over last night when I was baking the layers for this cake and mentioned it. I told her I'd think of some ideas.
