Then I started wondering if anyone in the Capital believed that no one was really dying, that it was all just stage blood and makeup. That it was about as real as wrestling. I liked what the movie did with the opening, with Seneca Crane talking about how the Games aren't really about punishement anymore, but had become part of the culture and all "something that unites us all", and the audience applauds. There's such a huge disconnect between that and the terrified kids at the reaping. You have to wonder if the people of the Capitol see the people of the districts as people at all. And I have no doubt that they all believe everyone in the districts has enough to eat and good medical care and hot and cold running water. Because, as you say,

Yeah, the shaky-cam was one of the few things about the film that I wasn't especially fond of. The rest was just fantastic--loved the acting, loved the additions, I wish we'd had a bit more time in District 12 (although perhaps that was also the shaky-cam being overly distracting), but overall it was a brilliant film and I am so looking forward to what they do with the trilogy as a whole.
Agreed on all points, especially the first. I hate shaky cam-the last two Bourne movies are almost unwatchable for me because it's so bad. I'm just glad I found a good seat away from the screen (top row, right up underneath the projector) unlike the screening of the last Star Wars movie when I ended up with the worst headache I've ever had because we were sitting in the front row. Light saber battles suck when you're that close.
After reading the books, I was very curious about how they'd get the costumes to work and how in the hell Peeta was going to camouflage himself in the middle of the arena. I was pleasantly surprised on all point-especially Katniss' interview dress. That turned out even more spectacular than I imagined. Seneca's beard (coolest beard I have ever seen) and Cinna's gold eyeliner (mentioned in the book-which I now want to try) were perfect

Hell, you get that nowadays. A lot of rich people can't seem to fathom the problems of chronic illness, unemployment or not having enough food.
