Day 24 - Best quote.
Well, I have a lot of favorite shows, so here are some prime quotations from a goodly proportion of them.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Two from this one, both fairly well known. First, Spike.
Spike: You're not friends. You'll never be friends. You'll be in love 'til it kills you both. You'll fight, and you'll shag, and you'll hate each other 'til it makes you quiver, but you'll never be friends. Love isn't brains, children, it's blood -- blood screaming inside you to work its will. I may be love's bitch, but at least I'm man enough to admit it.
Second, this speech from Anya. You know the one. Oh, yeah, you do. The one that hit every single person who lost someone they loved.
Anya: But I don't understand! I don't understand how this all happens. How we go through this. I knew her, and then she's--there's just a body, and I don't understand why she just can't get back in it and not be dead anymore! It's stupid! It's mortal and stupid! Final words from Classic Who. I never heard them because the Seventh Doctor episodes didn't air around here, but they're FANTASTIC.

The Dresden Files.
First, Bob's backstory from "Soul Beneficiary." Delivered in just a few lines at the end of the episode, and utterly heartbreaking.
Harry: So, Bob?
Bob: Yes?
Harry: This resurrection thing. Death. Your punishment... You going to fill me in?
Bob: Winifred. She was a sorceress.
Harry: What, she was the one who turned you into a ghost?
Bob: She was the one I lost my heart to. All those centuries ago.
Harry: Yeah? And...?
Bob: She died. And I brought her back.
Harry: You brought her back?
Bob: Yes. I transgressed. I crossed the line. Several times. I wanted her back so badly I destroyed us both. And for my pains I was sentenced to spend all eternity in my skull.
(after a moment of silence, Bob turns to mist and floats away)
Harry: (softly) Oh, Bob.
And this, in which Harry points out that lying to Murphy under certain circumstances is pointless:
Mai: (gasping) I said...tell...her...nothing!
Harry: Morgan is the one talking about soul-ripping and element-tearing. I think the ship has kinda sailed, you know? The barn door is open, the cows are out, and the bag is utterly devoid of cats!

Second, River and Mal. I'm not sure why I like this one. I just do.
River: They weren't cows inside. They were waiting to be, but they forgot. Now they see sky, and they remember what they are.
Mal: Is it bad that what she said made perfect sense to me?
M*A*S*H. "The Nurses." It sums up Margaret Houlihan's loneliness in just a few sentences. This episode was a turning point for her character, and the speech shows why.
Margaret: Did you ever once show me any friendship? Ever ask my help in a personal problem? Include me in one of your little bull sessions? Can you imagine how it feels to walk by this tent and... [gasps and breaks down] hear you laughing and..and know that I'm not welcome? [pause, then speaks bitterly] Did you ever offer me a lousy cup of coffee?
Nurse: We didn't think you'd accept.
Margaret: Well, you were wrong.
Psych. You gotta love a show that can make fun of itself AND riff on someone's else's show at the same time:
Shawn: Here's the thing, Robert: I am a psychic.
Gus: We work for the Santa Barbara Police Department. We've solved over forty-seven cases. I'm also a pharmaceutical rep, if that means anything to you.
Shawn: You've seen The Mentalist, right?
Robert: Yes.
Shawn: It's like that.
Gus: Except that guy's a fake.
Shawn: Right. If I were a fake psychic, it would be eerily similar.
Gus: Exactly the same.
Shawn: A virtual carbon copy.
And this speech, which makes me think that Shawn Spencer would get on brilliantly with Harry Dresden. The snark is very similar.
Shawn: [writing list on napkin] Okay, here's what I'm going to do. First, I'm going to get me some of that maple candy that everyone seems to be raving about. Then, I'm going to purchase myself a walking stick. Preferably something with a ram's head carved into the handle. And finally, we're going to catch ourselves an international art thief.
