TV commentary:
LoK- Wow, that was unexpected.
I mean, I had heard about the three year time jump. But Kuvira shaping up to be this season's big bad is out of left field. Like the end of last season, the way they randomly gave her some screen time, I figured she'd play a bigger role, but not this big. Interesting, so it looks like she's on her way to becoming a warlord under the guise of pacifying the bandits in the Earth Kingdom.
What I find most interesting is how everyone but Opal seems to be oblivious to this. I mean, Bolin is his usually nice, oblivious self. Though the speech she gave on the train tracks, doesn't he see how kinda effed up that it? Join me, or we'll let you get run over by a train?
Even Kai doesn't see these strong arm tactics for what they are- like when he tells the governor to sign the contract, I don't think there's a hint of irony there when he's all, "I think you made the right choice". I think he sincerely believes it. Like the Governor being all, "Did I ever really have a choice?", I don't think he got that dig at Kuvira.
Back at Republic City, Mako has apparently become the bodyguard for the heir apparent. A position he thinks is temporary while the prince is in Republic City, but at the end, Lin informs him the president has basically made it his permanent job. He's none too pleased.
Anyways, everyone else is happy because Korra is finally coming back after 6 months. Only when Tonraq shows up, he's all, "Wait, I thought she's been staying with you this whole time!" Apparently she's been in Republic City for months, having become some sort of Earth pit fighter and keeping a low profile. Wonder why she's hiding.
