Like every old install of Microsoft Windows, my laptop has been running kinda slow lately. The obvious culprit is disk churn. The disk activity light blinks too much for what little I'm doing. Apparently the reason for my headaches in early February with my computer was not because my computer was getting too old. It was entirely Microsoft's fault for delivering a kernel update that completely broke my computer. If I knew this sooner I wouldn't have had to deal with reinstalling Windows. Not long ago, Microsoft announced and released their own free antivirus/security utility for Windows XP/Vista/7. I'm quite happy they decided to make this move because, after all, Microsoft should be responsible for their own mistakes and creating their own antivirus program will likely entice them to fix their problems. I must make note of this, however unlikely, in the case that I might stupidly put more than 4GB of memory into a 32-bit version of windows. An interesting issue at work arose where a 32-bit server with 8GB of memory was reporting 'out of memory' errors in applications even when there was at least 5GB of remaining free memory. I have been perfectly happy with Internet Explorer 7 for quite some time. I was hoping that version 8 would come with the same success, but I am quite mistaken.
