Day 13 - Favorite childhood show
The Sooty Show
I loved watching this show when I was young; this show started in around the 1950s or 60s and was presented by the late Harry Corbett, with two puppets, Sooty (a bear, who never spoke), and Sweep (a dog, who only ever made a squeaking noise). I watched the show during the late 1980s and early 1990s, when the show was presented by Matthew Corbett (son of Harry) and at this point, another character had been introduced - Soo, a panda, who actually had lines (which was fortunate, since some scenes featured only puppets).
I just found this show hilarious; Sooty would usually use his magic wand, Sweep would often do something silly and Soo would usually act like the smart one and explain everything, while Matthew would often end up getting squirted with water pistols or otherwise humiliated, and the plots were quite inventive (for a children's show). I loved one particular episode where they found a magic lamp and a genie appeared and granted each of them one wish, but they ended up wasting their wishes because the genie would interpret any sentence beginning with "I wish" as an actual wish, even though it wasn't intended that was (for example: "I wish I could think of something to wish for"). Some episodes also involved Sweep having an alter ego, Superdog; any episode I saw with Superdog always turned out to be a dream, but they were nevertheless enjoyable, and they actually got permission to use the Superman theme!
I did see a few new characters introduced, who occasionally popped up - Butch the Bulldog, and Sooty's cousin, Scampy, but I will always remember it with the regular characters from the episodes I loved when I was young.
