I was at work yesterday, and went out on site again. I took the trouble to read the inscription on the William Wallace Memorial at Smithfield, as I was passing; it's on the site where he was executed.
I went out to get a coffee, only to need to get a second one when I upended it trying to fit a plastic lid onto it, and then spilled some over a woman who decided to step out in front of me without much warning, but still felt like the bad guy in the whole situation. To add to my disappointment, I found that I couldn't find the exhibition that I was looking for, about a redevelopment scheme, so I cut my losses and returned to the office.
It was worth the extra trip for the sight I saw outside one of the shops. Two young men - more like very hairy boys really - were manhandling another young man, who at first I thought had been trying to dodge paying, but who I then realised was their colleague. It was quite funny watching these practically identical lads scuffle, until one of them told me: "We're beating this guy up".
I had to sketch the incident from memory; it was funny.
Usually walking through London is just full of people getting in your way or tearing past you in an enormous hurry, so this made for a different experience.
The HIIT class was after work, and we walked to the gym together. It was a fancy place, very swanky looking, and with a great view of the new arcade at Liverpool Street.
We got into pairs, and did sets of reps together, although I did notice that at times we were doing it around other gym users, who seemed relatively unbothered that they might be in the way a little, or even in danger of being hit by a wayward ball.
Unfortunately, we had to wrap up early when a woman came over and said she had a class booked in the same area. The instructor was very friendly, and helpful. I went over to thank him and shake his hand, and realised that he was going in for a fist bump, which I like doing better anyway. A couple of us helped him put the weights away that we'd been using.
I was the only one of the guys who stayed for a shower, and awkwardly, as I was undressing, a female member of staff walked in to the men's changing rooms and started picking up dirty towels; I was luckily decent.
On Strava, I have managed to complete Week 3 of Dr. Alex's Stomp and the Indoor Workout Challenge. The collective distance for Around the World in 30 Days is now 88.6 million miles.
While working from home today, I have taken breaks to stretch; it helps with my flexibility, and is probably a good idea after last night's exercise.
I did get out for a walk, and spotted something that must have been left over from Easter.
One of the suggestions for the Mental Health Challenge was learning something new, and I'll be learning tonight from a Stag Walkers friend how to use the new system for publishing walks online.
