Jump Back Up July: Rising from the Ashes ... with a Little Help

Jul 03, 2021 23:03

The Phoenix could be a metaphor for 2021, couldn't it? The world hopefully recovering from the Coronavirus, possibly for good (almost). Yes, I realise I wrote that sentence a bit tentatively.

I've been thinking today about how I'm quite bad at asking for, or accepting, help from others. If I'm consulting a map and I see people coming, I'll do my best to put the map away and not appear to be lost, because I don't want to be faced with a lot of "are you lost? where are you trying to get to?" questions.

I'm feeling like a phoenix, ready to rise from the ashes again, but I probably need all the help I can get. I've been better at asking family for help, with my online shopping, and asking Mum if she would give me a lift to my walk tomorrow if something went wrong with the trains. She eventually heard me; I asked while she was checking her phone.

It looks like the trains were bad today; it's probably just as well I didn't try to go to London for a basketball game, which hopefully will become a regular thing on Saturdays throughout the summer.

I had a pleasant walk with the family today, and hoping that I don't tempt fate, the weather wasn't as bad as the weather warnings suggested it would be. We were in a nice park that we'd never visited before, and we should probably go back there sometime.

Cattle grid; another item for the Stile Magazine scavenger hunt.

I have walked 18 km, and logged 5 hours of activity for the July Strava Walking Challenges.

We watched England annihilating Ukraine tonight; the semi final against Denmark should make for interesting viewing, after some of the upsets they have created. It's starting to feel like the England team have become like the phoenix with some of the recent international competitions - the 2018 world cup was amazing, after that 2016 exit against Iceland.

Update on plastic-free July: I have some ham packaged in plastic - I'll have to remember to recycle it if I can.
