Today I'm trying the challenge of exuding warmth and friendliness when I speak to others, which today will be mostly via zoom and teams calls.
I can honestly say that while I find it soul-destroying (and I've mentioned this before) when I talk to someone who just sounds flat and miserable, I realise after one meeting that I have no idea whether I was exuding any joy or warmth, as I was just speaking how I usually would naturally in a work meeting, without thinking about whether or not I smiled.
Also, how much warmth should I exude, and is there too much? I know when I'm waiting at my local station for a train and I hear the woman who runs it with her loud cheery "HELLO, HOW ARE YOU?" greetings, I am put off going in, because well, it's always too early in the day for me to be hear all that much friendliness from someone I don't even know, so yes I think you can get too much of it at times.
Yes, this isn't easy for me - maybe I should start asking others for feedback on how I sounded.
I had a quick look at this page on
ten benefits of smiling - I guess that's all true!
My good thing for today is birdsong; I need to keep turning down the volume on my devices to make sure I can hear it.
