Books appear to be making up approximately half of our move's gross tonnage. Just my comic books and trade collections took six boxes. On the off chance you were wondering, each box:
has dimensions of 12x12x16 inches
has a panel crush test rating of 32 lbs
measures no more than 75 linear inches for the purposes of common-carrier shipping has a weight capacity of 65 pounds.
For the mathematically inclined, that means that the six boxes together weigh 390 pounds, or three times what I do. I either need fewer comic books for more bookshelves. Fortunately, the new place has room for more bookshelves.
On a side note, next time I move, I will not merely have large men show up with a truck to carry all this crap out of the house and into the new house. I will also pay clever individuals to pack said crap for me. Either that, or discard all cookware and buy new once I get to my destination; I've had my fill of odd-shaped items that take up a whole bloody box by themselves. The inventor of the wok now has a permanent place on my I Will Have My Revenge In The Afterlife list.
Apart from that unpleasantness, we appear to be coming down to the end game, packing-wise. If all goes well, by this time tomorrow the large men will have departed and our week will look something like this:
Sunday, Helen and I will fall into the Sleep Of The Just in our new home
Monday, the bed will be reassembled, and we'll have the Sleep Of The No Neck Cramps
Tuesday, Lord willin' an' the creek don't rise, most of the unpacking will be done and the cable guy will be by
Wednesday, I'm guessing we shop for homeowner stuff: a ladder, a hose, porch furniture
Thursday, off to the dentist and break for smoothies
Friday, I shall be (oh yes, I shall) the possessor of a new Weber kettle grill
DSL back on around the 10th, just in time for me to be in Maryland for a week. Ah, well. Good times ahead, my friends; come by and set a spell.
