[He's looked into the matter on his own already, but all information seems to suggest there is little he can do to fix his current situation. Still, there's no harm in asking...]

Dude, what could possibly be so bad that you're thinking of refusing to do the mission?

[Though he's not the best judge of fashion.]

What's so bad about refusing to do them?

[Because he can certainly think of better uses for his time, ones that would draw much less attention to himself nd leave him looking less ridiculous]

I have no idea, I only just got here. I do know that doing them gives you money though, so if you're running low on that, you need to outweigh the pros and cons of not having it.

What does this thing look like, anyway?

That's not something I'm particularly concerned about right now.

Have you seen the bustier-style dresses shown in some period dramas or films about pirates? Like that.

I have no answers for you, but I too face this problem.

Has anyone given you advice on this?

Ah, yes. As I mentioned, I'm aware that it's hardly an uncommon problem.

Alas, not yet. Though if I'm honest I didn't really think anyone would have anything useful to say on the matter.

I have only recently arrived, so I am not familiar with the ways of this ship yet.

But it seems to me that if this is a common problem, then surely someone must have found a way to correct it?

You would think. That doesn't appear to be the case, however. I can't personally speak for the malfunctioning Guides, as mine has been working appropriately since I arrived here, though you'd certainly expect there to be a simple way of dealing with other people signing you up for missions you have no interest in undertaking.

Try and see if the one in charge understands, or just wait until someone complains enough and get fired. Those might be your only options.

The first option seems reasonable enough, and I'm quite sure I'm not what they had in mind when the position was advertised. The second would mean undertaking the job for some length of time to begin with, which is really something I was hoping to avoid.

Get a friend to complain? Or see if your coworkers will help you out? I'm pretty sure everyone's had this happen to them, so it's not like they won't sympathize.

[Ah, the drawback of forever keeping people neither too close nor too distant; not having anyone to help you out when you need it. Nor has he been here long enough to have established any level of control over another person to make them do what he wants]

That's assuming the people I'll be working with are given to sympathy, though I suppose it's a common enough emotional response. Among humans, at least.

I'll certainly take your suggestions into consideration, though. It's better than nothing, right?

Since the guides themselves are prone to doing stuff like that, I don't think you can do anything about it.

Though this had nothing to do with my Guide malfunctioning. what could they do if I simply refuse to undertake the job I've been assigned?

I dunno, try it! You won't get paid, obviously, but I don't know if you would get in trouble.

Perhaps I will, then. Not being paid is a consequence I'm quite willing to deal with. Still, I'd like to know what other repercussions there may be before I make any firm decisions.

How dull. So much whining.

I'm hardly whining. Just trying to fix a situation that you created.

There's only one way to fix it. Get to work and wait for the month to be over.

Oh? And what will happen to me if I refuse? Nothing so terrible, I don't imagine.
