This just in (the ground)!

So I planted my vegetable garden today, and it includes:

beefsteak tomatoes
roma tomatoes
garlic
cilantro
chives
red onions
sweet bell peppers
jalapeno peppers
cayenne peppers
sweet basil
other kind of basil
parsley

It's my tomato sauce and salsa garden, since I'm expecting I'll have a lot of those two condiments come harvest.

I've got a couple of quick questions for the community in general:

Is there a good way to keep grass from growing in the garden?  We tilled and tried to get the roots out as best we could, but it's impossible to get all of them.

When do I need to feed my vegetables?

Are there any good natural pesticides--ie. praying mantis, ladybugs, or other natural solution?

and finally,

Does anything need to be staked other than my big tomatoes?

As always, any tips and tricks pertaining to vegetable gardening at all are greatly appreciated. I've never had a green thumb and my goal this year is just to not kill everything.

Thanks!
