Geeky Christmas

For those wondering how my gluten-free Christmas cake turned out, here is the evidence:

It was actually quite nice! I've tended to find that gluten-free cakes go dry very quickly but this is still really moist so that's a bonus. It's also ended up quite alcoholic, I didn't think I'd put that much whisky in it! My mother and sister both said it was nice, and Mr Nextdoor and daughter agreed too. Mr Nextdoor gave it 9.75 out of 10 which is very impressive!

I made some decorations too, mostly paper flowers which went in a vase in the hallway together with some glittery pinecones and berries (that I didn't make). The process is pretty straightforward but it's also rather fiddly. The resulting flowers are quite effective though.

I got lots of geeky presents this Christmas! I often do but this year seemed to be better than most. It was both MARVELous and Potterific.

Shame the Hogwarts sweatshirt is red rather than green though ;)

I had an amusing conversation with my sister and mother on Christmas Eve. There was a bottle of HP sauce on the table with an advert thing for Movember which I'd previously had to explain to my mother which caused her to say that I wasn't allowed to grow any facial hair. I mentioned this to my sister just as my mother walked through the room.
Me: Can I grow a beard?
Mother: No!
Me: What about a moustache?
Mother: No!
Apple: What about Wolverine sideburns?
Me: Oh, I've asked about those before. Can I have Wolverine sideburns?
Mother: No!
Me: Can I grow my hair long?
Mother: Please yourself!
Me: All the way down to my bum?
Mother: If you want! You're the one that has to wash it and sit on it.
Me: So I can have long hair but not a beard or anything?

This was made even more hilarious when I opened these gifts from my mother the following day:

Thank you, mother, I think I've got the message!
