I was up really early this morning ready to go off and have my first ever day of working as male. I'd ironed my shirt last night and got my tie all ready as well for quickness. I had to go into the agency first to pick up my time sheet and find out exactly where it was I was going and I imagined that the traffic would be horrendous so I made sure I left in plenty of time. Of course, there was bugger all traffic and I got into town for 8.30 so I had half an hour to waste! Thankfully Waterstones was open so I went in to have a bit of a look and see if I could get the book I'd promised Michael. It was very quiet though, so I got the book in a matter of minutes. I ended up going down to the agency and sitting there with a coffee to pass the time.

At 8.55 I went round to the solicitors office. It was one of the really posh old ones so I was glad that I'd really made an effort with my suit. The woman that answered the door to me said she'd take me up to the office I'd be in and asked my name as we went up three flights of stairs. I actually got asked for my name a lot this morning, everyone seemed to be very friendly. I was sat right opposite the office door so every time someone came in it was a case of 'hello! who are you then?' but in a nice friendly way. Made a nice change though, lots of places don't bother with their temps as though you're not worth getting to know because you're not permanent staff.

It was very simple work, just a case of typing out lots of letters that had been dictated. I've done medical secretary work before and it's exactly the same thing so I didn't have any problems. I got quite a bit done in between all the people coming in and distractions of chocolates and that kind of thing. I don't know what I was expecting really, maybe more confusion over my gender or something but there didn't seem to be any of that so yay. I left at 12.00 and took my timesheet back to the agency where I was asked if I'd work at the solicitors again. For £8 an hour? You betcha. Besides, they seemed like nice people and that's always a bonus.

I had an appointment at the Jobcentre at 2.45 so I stayed in town running various errands, the most important of which was getting a chai latte in Cafe Nero and relaxing for half an hour with a book. I didn't get any hassle from the Jobcentre today, although I did get referred to as 'she' twice. I'm sitting there in a bloody suit and tie, it really baffled me how I could be mistaken as female like that. It was slightly strange to be walking round in a suit and tie all day though. I felt vaguely like I was in a school uniform, maybe because the collar of my shirt kept strangling me. Apart from the silly woman at the Jobcentre, I was feeling pretty good. It was just nice. That word doesn't really do it justice. I thought I looked good anyway. I even made sure I got some photos taken for my new license and passport because I thought I was looking decent and I should make the most of it! It will be nice when I look at the photos and think that they were taken the day I went to work as male for the very first time. I think it's nice that they'll be a permanent reminder of such a momentous occasion.

i get paid for this?!, hunting the lesser-spotted job, michael
