Right, so, I'm writing this to see if anyone here has any experience with port switches ( Read more... )

not to sound insensitive to your plight, but i have to ask, what the hell kind of wireless router do you have that it doesn't have more ethernet ports in the back?! Mine has like 5 and this thing is easily 4 years old at this point.

anyway, i wouldn't go with a port SWITCHER really, i'd just get a splitter so you don't have to decide weather you want internet to your computer or xbox live every time. keep in mind though that splitting a line too many times (even running it through switchers) can bottleneck your connection and really slow things up. although other than a slightly slower download speed you probably wouldn't notice except for when playing something like Halo or Call of Duty on Live.

Okay, so, call me stupid (and if you really want to, go ahead) but I didn't even know wireless routers had extra ports on them. I guess I just never noticed in all those times I spent setting up my parents' growing up. Anyway, the one my roommate bought last semester (I've literally been in this apartment a week now.

Anyway, I checked it and it does have a port. My dad bought me this giant ass like.... 50 foot ethernet cord freshman year and I still have it so I plugged that in and I'm going great. I feel like an idiot, yeah, but hey. I'm a poli sci major not a comp. sci. major, lol.

hahahahah!!! oh man, well i'm glad i could help!

you know, now that your xbox is set up on the same network as your computer, you can also watch any movies, view and pictures, and play any music in your My documents folder and any subsequent folders within. all you have to do is open windows media player, and click the tab under "library" then select "media sharing". when the box opens one of the options should be "xBox 360" check that to select it then click "allow". you should be set. i use it to play custom playlists from my computer whenever i have a party, and to watch dvd quality movies downloaded from thepiratebay.org.

also, if you have a netflicks account you can watch any movies you can stream to your PC, on your TV by streaming them through Live.

just some fun things i recommend to get the most out of your 360!

(also, if you can find one for cheap on ebay buy the HDDVD add-on. it comes with the universal remote that can be used to control all your movies and it makes a GREAT cheap upconvert!)

It will only upconvert via HDMI or HD15. Going through component, it will not upconvert. FYI.

I find it hard to believe that Kung Fu Panda and Lego Indiana Jones are the first games you would pick up for a new Xbox 360.

Majority of the 360's being sold these days have Kung Fu Panda and Lego Indiana Jones bundled in.

Yeah, those are the games that came with it. Though, I am a big fan of the Lego series so I probably would have picked up Lego Indiana Jones anyway at some point when it got cheaper. No worries. I got Mass Effect a couple of weeks ago and I picked up Fable II yesterday when I got it. I've got a handful of other games Bioshock and Fallout 3 are next on my list. I know what I should be playing. We just didn't want to dedicate any real time to it last night because we'd been training/working/shopping all day and were tired.
