Awhile back, I started getting emails from SourceForge. A lot of them, all of a sudden. All manner of Trac tickets and commits and suchlike. Good news: I collected the tax info early in the year, and entered most of it into a copy of my '07 return spreadsheet (Excel 1040) to estimate what we needed to pay this year.

Bad news: Between state and fed, about $2200. Ouch. I arranged to set aside that much by April, which we did.

I have officially lost count of how many phone books we get here now. I've stubbornly stuck with the AT&T one purely because I refuse to swap phone books every couple of months, and the AT&T one was here first. The rest go straight to the recycler, or occasionally out to the in-laws who often manage to get missed by all the phone book delivery ( Read more... )

When you have eight bajillion different variations on your product, all identified by mysterious numbers and equally excited ad text, plz to take a page from iRobot's book and put up a handy-dandy chart with checkmarks telling me what product/package comes with what features/accessories. Otherwise it's baffling.

Facebook knows that I am a woman over 40. Ergo, I get ads like "Compare Wrinkle Creams", "Super Flat Belly" and "Over 30 and Overweight?"

Somebody in advertising sales needs to look at what message their aggregate is sending, there...

202.86.221.60, for their phishing spam informing me that someone has made "[5] suspicious attemps" [sic] to access my ebay account, from address 202.86.221.60, so would I please verify myself by entering my eBay information into the web page at (wait for it) http ://202.86.221.60/ws/etc., etc.

And I'm not talking about my sweet old mixed-breed dog by that name, either.

No, I'm talking about what is apparently another voting machine company whose product won't stand up to the light of day. And who hasn't heard of the Streisand Effect either.

The real question is, why hasn't building a better mousetrap voting machine become an open-source
