Effective immediately, I'm dropping every single blog author who expresses contempt toward anyone who doesn't espouse their political beliefs. Even if I otherwise agree 100% with them. I have officially lost count of how many phone books we get here now. I've stubbornly stuck with the AT&T one purely because I refuse to swap phone books every couple of months, and the AT&T one was here first. The rest go straight to the recycler, or occasionally out to the in-laws who often manage to get missed by all the phone book delivery ( Read more... )

Not too long ago, the moderation queue for the managers list at the Phoenyx filled up with dozens of backscatter posts. This was, far as I could tell, from a spam campaign that randomized the sending address as well as the recipient address out of its database of target addresses. I got a challenge-reponse system's challenge, as backscatter from a spam with a forged Phoenyx webmaster address.

I responded affirmatively to it.

Hey, that's what happens when you pester random strangers to do your spam filtering for you. To keep things in balance, I don't respond to challenges to messages I've actually sent.

So a mailing list I subscribe to decided to move to Yahoogroups, over my strenuous objections.

Yahoogroups, I was informed, has a "robust web interface." I've heard this from other people, and I just don't get it. I'm increasingly convinced that Yahoo has two different web interfaces, and that I get The One That We Reserve For People We Hate. (Or ( Read more... )
