I forgot to mention in my last entry that I had my first real celebrity sighting! Jeremy London! He in front of me in line at the post office. Well, to be entirely technical, I was in the middle of the line, and he walked in from outside and walked straight to the window that we were all in line for...soo...there was that...a little disappointed that my celebrity cherry was popped and it wasn't even an A lister...but oh well.
Sarah, Mike and I went the The Huntington yesterday, which is a gigantic garden and museum and library and science center. The gardens were unbelievably gorgeous. They had gardens of every kind you could imagine! They had a jungle garden that was prettier that the one in Jumanji, and half as lethal. They had an Australian garden where no one was in danger of having their baby eaten by a dingo. They had a Desert garden, but when you get to the middle and think you're starting to see mirages, NOPE, there's ACTUALLY a drinking fountain! They also had a Sub-tropical garden, a Chinese garden, a Japanese garden (with coy that were literally about three feet long) and a lily pond and zen garden...it was really nice.
Inside they had a giant library with original copies are crazy amounts of things, like Amendments, letters from people like Washington and Einstein, the original Aesop's Fables, and tons more.
The science part had more books that were super super old, that had to do with the theme for each room. They had a medical room, a space room, and an optical room. Fascinating stuff all around. Also, thanks to Franklin Pierce not putting graduation dates on their student IDs, we all got in for the student price of $10.
As far as the apartment goes, we got chairs for our table, my computer came in, my knives came in, and everything's looking great. Our cat Leeloo is slowly becoming potty trained. Sarah is currently building a new cage for our Guinea Pigs. We're starting to learn to streets around here, though an absurd amount of people keep either pulling up next to us while driving, or pulling over while we're walking and asking us for directions. Seriously, we're probably the worst people in the entire city to ask for directions, yet we have something about us that makes people think we know exactly where everything is, everywhere.
I'm starting to take all of my music and break it down for piano. I'm reading a book about Composing for movies, and apparently most composers don't actually orchestrate their own music, they just give piano sketches to orchestrators, and they do all the orchestration. I had no idea...but I need to see if my pieces can be broken down to piano and still sound good, and then I need to start practicing writing for piano some more, because apparently most directors don't give composers nearly enough time to write and orchestrate their own music. Who knew.
As far as becoming true citizens over here, Sarah and Mike now have their California licenses...though my birth certificate was apparently not good enough for them, so I need to get a new one and try again. Mike's car is now registered and ours will be as soon as we get the title. Exciting stuff! Well this is long enough, so, I miss you all! Peace!
