Interesting Stuff

Got some interesting gifties. Blythe Spirit sent me a faceplate insert she’d made for the retirement countdown clock she’d given me for my birthday earlier this year. It has photos of me with her and Curmudgeon in various places in Colorado, so it’s thoughtful and personal. She also sent me a copy of her movie. (She’s a moviemaker.) So I’m definitely interested in that.

Curmudgeon got us a Firestick so we can more easily watch Dallas Stars games. They aren’t available over cable anymore but instead via the Victory+ app. You can’t get that app on our TV, but you can, alternatively, watch the games on the Victory+ website and our TV does get Internet, so we’ve been watching it that way. It’s glitchy, though, and we’ve often had problems with buffering or it stopping altogether so that we have to figure out where we left off, sometimes seeing spoilers as we fast-forward or rewind. The Firestick will let us get the app, which we hope will solve these problems. We can use the Firestick for other things, but I don’t know much about it. We already have a smart TV, so we have Netflix and can sign up for other streaming services via the TV itself, so we wouldn’t need the Firestick for that, but I do see it will allow us to use Alexa, so we can use voice commands which will be nice. Any other suggestions of things we can use it for?

He also got me two calendars. I need one for work, so I will keep the smaller one, the Greyhound Adoption League of Texas (GALT) calendar, at my desk, so I can pull it out quickly. (It’s easier than using computer-based calendars.) I will put the other calendar on the wall in our kitchen as usual. It’s a Yellowstone calendar. It will be nice to remember our trip this year as we go through 2025.

At my request, he also gave me something I read about online. It’s a book nook kit, specifically an Owl Bookstore DIY Book Nook Kit. It’s sort of a model kit that’s about the size of a few books that you can put on your bookshelf, but it looks like a tiny bookstore, and it has LED lights. Look it up on Amazon. It’s a pretty cool idea for people who like putting together puzzles and that type of thing.

Then I got two Tile Trackers. They look like key rings. You attach them to your keys, purse, travel carry-on bag, anything you don’t want to lose. Then if you lose them, you can locate them with their Bluetooth tracker. You can also ring it.

The audio on our TV isn’t very good, so we got a sound bar for our TV. We tried it out today and watched the movie of Barbie. It was okay, if a little heavy handed on the politics and the war between the sexes theme.

I have a rib roast in the oven, then tonight for dessert we’ll have the yule log I got at Central Market for dessert. Oooooh.
