I forgot to write on November 25, the Monday before Thanksgiving, that I went to my dermatologist to treat my digital mucinous cyst (DMC). A year or so ago, he’d lanced the thing and squeezed out the fluid. (The fluid originates from within a neighboring joint.) Sometimes this will cause such things to heal, but not in my case. It’s on my dominant hand’s middle finger (which I use a lot, ar ar), between the nail and the first joint, and it’s tender when I bump or scrape it. He had mentioned that he might end up having to refer me to a hand surgeon, but there was one more thing we could try, short of such a drastic step. This time he cut out the cyst, as he would a suspicious mole. The aim is to cause scarring, preventing the fluid rising up and causing the cyst. It’s partially healed, but the scab is still there, and it’s still tender. During Thanksgiving food preparation, I used a disposable glove.

Speaking of my odd body, I suffer from ringing in my ears. Suffer is the wrong word. It’s just there. My ENT doctor isn’t overly concerned. It crept up on me over time. I’ve tried to describe it to people, and they look at me blankly. Then I read this quote in the novel I’m currently reading, Sunshine by Robin McKinley: "…[A]s I listened the strange, wavering nontune seemed to grow increasingly familiar, as if it were a noise like the purr of a refrigerator or the high faint whine of a TV with the sound turned off."
That TV thing! I’ve talked about it to Curmudgeon and I think Blythe Spirit and they didn’t know what I was talking about, but at least one other person, this author, has heard it! It does exist! I especially would hear it when I was young and would walk into a department store with a TV department with the old-fashioned CRT TVs. So when I first realized I had ringing in my ears, I thought it was our TV, till one day I was outside and realized I was still hearing it. Oh. I guess it’s not the TV, then.

We’ve been continuing to work on jigsaw puzzles. Every one we’ve done has been missing anywhere from two to four pieces. When we finished one and threw it away early this week, I wasn’t sure whether to dump a new one on the coffee table and start it or not, with Christmas coming. On Christmas day, we open presents on the coffee table, and they sit there for a day or two till we gradually put stuff away. I went ahead and started a new one, figuring I’ll have a couple of days off before the big day to go on a puzzle marathon if necessary. It turns out we probably won’t need to rush, because this one is kind of easy. We almost have it done. Then I’ll wonder whether to start another one. I really need to finish reading my Kindle book before it’s “due back” to the library, though. I’ve also started a list of things to do on my days off. That list will inevitably expand to fill the available time and then overflow it, no doubt.
