Mrs. Terhes' was a legendary little Hungarian restaurant in Manhattan on 2nd Avenue and 70th Street. It is long gone. I am certain that there are millions upon millions of folks throughout the world who have never tasted prosciutto. This sad likelihood constitutes a tragedy of epic proportions.

Yesterday President Obama and Vice President Biden went out for a business lunch. They waited in line with everybody else at Ray's Hell Burgers in Arlington, Virginia. There is a great Chinese restaurant I like in Boston. It's called Gourmet Dumpling House and is on Beach Street in Chinatown. As the name implies, it serves dumplings, but also a million other things as well listed on a menu the length of the Great Wall. There are usually more diners speaking Chinese here than English. The lunch I made today was a result of re-watching Bernardo Bertolucci's stunning 1964 film Before the Revolution, completed when he was 22. It is set in Parma, so I got an almost unnatural craving for prosciutto di Parma. I got my butt to the market to buy a half-pound at $17.99 a pound. Got a real juicy canteloupe too.
