The artist attempts to show his skill by honing his talent to gain acclaim, only to be overshadowed by someone with inherent ability- one who cares nothing for acclaim, merely in self-expression. Beneath the veneer, the true savagery of the so-called sophisticated man lurks a brute. The caveman ready to strike the child for outperforming him.
