First, let me set the mood...

Conflict arises when people want to get something- and people want to beleive in science the same way they used to want to beleive in religion.

The focus of this is the what I'm going to call the "ascension principle"- that is, that people are always changing for the better. Are you familiar with that old three stage depiction of the monkey becoming a man? Geuss what- it's influenced by Christianity! The idea being the lowly monkey becomes a man to become an angel to ascend and join his Creator in the Heavens :P

You see, people who follow science to explain their existence or those who follows faith to justify their behavior (You can't explain it & therefore it's perfectly okay because it's labelled faith) actually want to believe they that can become something that they NOT ONLY have no chance of becoming, but something that doesn't even exist. The want is there, and justification is applied superficially.

Personally, I would say if organisms do change or pass on triats at all, it to cope with enviromental or behavioral stress that their forms need better adaptions to cope with... these aren't necessarily "higher" or always improvements. If anyone asks for proof of this, use humans as an example :P ...then tell them they want something and that skews their perspective every time ^_^
