Imagine yourself driving with a close friend, just giving them a ride home or to work. Next thing you know you're getting pulled over. Your friend is being taken into custody; told he's going to be deported, and you are going to be convicted of aiding an illegal immigrant, just for giving him a ride.
Imagine hugging your mother before she leaves to the grocery store. Days pass before you even get word from authorities that she has been deported, taken across the border and left to fend on her own. Simply because she wasn't carrying any documents that proved she was a legal resident.
Imagine going to church and upon reaching the entrance, being asked to show proof of your citizenship just to enter and attend mass. Then watch the others without proof, being loaded into a bus, most likely never to be seen again.
Imagine our nation with a very literal WALL spanning each of its borders; a concrete wall which would be built on the border line of our southern states in order to deter immigration. And on the side you are standing on, are men armed to the teeth with assault weaponry to "defend" their borders.
These and things far worse, are all possible futures for us all, and before you assume they are part of some futuristic movie, or part of some stupid chain letter about dead kids chasing you with a bald monkey, please now that this is all very real, and very close to happening.

"Last December, the House of Representatives passed anti-immigrant HR 4437, introduced by GOP Rep. James Sensenbrenner (Wis.).
• It would make all undocumented workers felons, as well as those who help or work with them including teachers, clergy, union leaders, social workers and family members.
• An environmentally destructive wall would be built along the Mexican border.
• Local and state police would be deputized to arrest anyone they think may be without documents. This would vastly increase racial profiling and scare immigrants away from reporting crimes.
Don't buy the big lie.
Immigrants are accused of causing every social problem, and especially of taking jobs and services they are not entitled to. This is not true.
Working people as a whole, including immigrants, pay a larger share of the tax burden than the rich and receive fewer benefits. The profits made from the work of immigrants and all workers are being taxed less and less and sometimes not at all.
Immigrants don't fire or hire people. They do not outsource jobs, downsize workplaces, and raise prices or premiums. They are victims of big business too. For more jobs and services, we need to tax exploitative profits! "

"HR 4437 Attacks Immigrants' and U.S. Citizens' Rights
HR 4437 is an unprecedented attack on undocumented immigrants as well as the rights of legal permanent residents and U.S. citizens. It offers only harsh measures meant to punish immigrants and does not provide realistic solutions to fix our broken immigration system. It would permanently bar undocumented immigrants from ever attaining legal status by making their presence an aggravated felony. It would also deprive them of their basic right to due process and any meaningful remedy if the government were in error."

"In addition, it would require humanitarian groups --- including religious organizations --- to find out a person's legal status before offering any assistance. It would also place stiff penalties (up to five years for each offense) on any Good Samaritan who dared to help illegal immigrants. "

"Anyone who does anything for someone here who doesn't have documents would be a felon under this bill," the cardinal pointed out. "And it targets everybody, churches included. So on its face value, it means that anyone coming for Communion or baptism or to be married, I should stop and ask to see their legal papers.
"That's absurd, and we're not going to do it --- even if Congress says we have to. We're not going to be immigration officers. Our role is spiritual and pastoral, and that's going to prevail. But the foolishness of this whole out-of-control thought process is just astounding."
