ARGH! - Today's Recap, 3/3/10

Luke to Noah, re: his quest for independence: Oh, how selfish of me! Let's do everything you wanna do!

(Thank you, Ace Ventura.)

Okay, so. Let's start today's recap off with a letter, shall we?

Dear ATWT writers,

WE UNDERSTAND THAT NOAH WANTS HIS INDEPENDENCE. CAN YOU STOP BEATING US OVER THE HEAD WITH THIS INFORMATION?! Thank you kindly.

Kisses!
Nuke fans everywhere

For real, guys...if I see ONE MORE SCENE with Noah going, "I NEED my independence!" and Luke saying, "But I want you to stay with meeeeeee!" I'm gonna scream. WE GET IT; MOVE ON, WRITERS! Can you make this storyline progress, please?!

And the thing is, I totally understand why Noah wants to do this. I do. I'd be the same way - wanting to figure it out for myself. But what I wouldn't do is throw my boyfriend under the bus in the process. So, okay, I know I only watched it once, and I'm totally letting my emotions control me now, but basically Noah told Luke that he didn't want any affection from him, and really didn't want a boyfriend at the moment. He "just wanted a friend". Am I right?

Luke says, "You don't have to be able to see in order to put your arms around me," and Noah practically balked at the idea, like he wouldn't even consider doing that right now. Yet he still claims to love and miss Luke. WHAT THE HELL?

Remember when Holden was presumed dead, and Noah busted into the LilyPad even after Luke told him he needed space, and Noah was all, "I'm here, DEAL WITH IT!" and it was wonderful? Why should his being blind at the moment change that? Therapy is going well, Reid has kept his word to perform the surgery, but Luke's in a ton of shit with his family right now and needs all the support he can get, and all Noah is worrying about is how many dishes he manages to break or not break while making dinner?! Luke even told him flat-out that it would be easier for him with Noah by his side!

Oh, God. I don't want the writers to destroy Noah the way they destroyed Ali. Please don't do this to us, ATWT. I don't want my sweet, loving Noah to be annihilated.

And Luke. What are they doing to Luke? Suddenly he can't exist without Noah? Okay, so yeah...Luke's done this before - clung to Noah with everything he has even though Noah wants none of it - but at this time, I really think Luke should be worrying more about himself than Noah. That might sound awful, but really...Luke's got bigger problems, I feel. He's got a company to run, a family to worry about, and his own emotional healing to focus on. NONE of which he's been paying much attention to. Everything has been about Noah and it's time for something to be about Luke. His own PARENTS haven't even been worrying about him or spending any time with him!

I don't know...I think I'm being hyper-sensitive about all of this (it's a silly soap, after all). But still. Today's episode made me want to ram my head into a wall.

You know, I'd really like to see Noah have to work his way back into Luke's good graces. I'd be okay if Noah leaves with Reid and when he comes back, sight restored, actually has to fight a little to be with Luke again. I know I always immediately side with Luke, but he's really been stomped on these past couple months, I feel. I don't understand why the writers keep having him cling so much. Tell Noah goodbye, let him get his surgery in Texas, and start worrying about yourself, Luke! You have SO MUCH going on that you don't even realize!

And why isn't Luke angry? I'm angry at the way he's being treated, why isn't he? I don't understand. Wouldn't you be angry if you were in Luke's place?

Argh.

And you know, it wasn't just the boys who made me crazy in this episode. Katie has now worked herself onto my Shitlist as well!

I said it the other day, and it rang true in today's episode: Katie is a fair-weather friend. When it suits her to be nice to Henry, to try to manipulate him (hello, phone call to Vienna today) for her own sake, then she's all for it. But if Henry tries to do something good for her (Stenbeck fortune for Jacob's future, anyone?) or just generally is worried about her well-being (inviting a strange man to live with her after knowing him for all of five seconds), then she thinks he's the scum of the earth and wants nothing to do with him. She'd rather have Reid, who - shocker - is leaving her high and dry after getting sprung from Oakdale. You think Reid's gonna cry himself to sleep when he gets back home to Dallas because he's not with Katie anymore? Maybe when I sprout wings and fly to the moon!

Seriously...do the writers have their heads up their asses or am I just blowing things out of proportion?

And Nu!Faith, too. She's had about TWELVE MILLION CHANCES to tell someone the truth about what's going on with Damian. She was AT THE POLICE STATION today. Hello?! Is anybody home? Perhaps she's been doing too much pot to think clearly or something, but FOR REAL. She's trusting Damian now? When has Faith EVER trusted Damian? Even when Luke BEGGED her to accept Damian because he's Luke's father, Faith didn't trust Damian farther than she could throw him. But suddenly she thinks Damian is telling her the truth now? Dumbass!

Ashley Marie Greiner --> This is Faith's brain.
Valentina de Angelis --> This is Faith's brain on drugs.

Any questions?

HAHAHAHAHAHA. THIS IS WHY YOU STAY IN SCHOOL! :-P

Anyway, deep breaths, deep breaths. Sorry for assaulting you all like that. I try to keep my recaps positive and fun, I really do. But sometimes I just wanna KILL. THIS. SHOW. :-D

Okay, so. Luke, Bob, and Kim spring Reid from his custody hearing and now he's footloose and fancy free. He's taking Noah with him to Dallas to operate. There was actually a really great scene with Luke and Reid (two, actually), in which Reid actually THANKED Luke and went to shake his hand (Luke blew him off the first time, lol), and then later he thanked Luke again. AW. Match made in heaven. *hurl*

Henry, of course, tried to get Reid stuck in Oakdale after the whole fake TB incident, but Dr. Bob put the kabosh on that quick as a wink. Then of course, Katie tries to convince Henry to donate the Stenbeck fortune to Memorial so that Reid can have his state-of-the-art neurological center (which would keep Reid in Oakdale with her) and when Henry absolutely REFUSES, she goes to make a phone call to Vienna, presumably to get Vienna to convince Henry to get rid of the money. (*smacks Katie upside the head*) But she only did this after Henry said, "I guess we're not that good of friends as we thought we were!" and totally stormed out on her. Go Henry, it's your birthday. :-) Put that girl in her place.

So now Faith's more jittery than a Mexican jumping bean because Damian's got her twisted into his scheming plot to "protect Lily" (and by "protect Lily", I mean BREAK INTO HER HOUSE), and Molly's TOTALLY on to her. Faith told Lily and Holden she had an English exam to take care of, but she told Molly it was Chemistry. So now Molly's going to be sniffing around her until she finds out the truth, I guarantee it.

Also, I dunno...but would you rather admit to your parents that you were smoking pot, or get involved with someone who could potentially kill your parents? I'll take the punishment for the pot, please.

Also also...Holden and Lily let Faith walk home when they still suspect that Damian is alive and well? They're not worried that Faith might get abducted or something on the way home?

And YAY! Twelve-year-old Lily is back! *eyeroll* She gets all jealous that Molly made a phone call to Faith and Holden had to quickly step in and tell Lily it was all his idea. And in tomorrow's preview, Lily's all, "TELL YOUR DAMN GIRLFRIEND TO STEP OFF!" to Holden. Oh, joy. *headdesk*

I did like one scene with the boys. Actually, it was just the ending part of one scene, when Luke left to go to Dr. Oliver's hearing. (And hey, for not being together, or living together, or whatever the hell arrangement they have, Noah sure does know a lot about what's going on in Luke's life. He knew about Reid's hearing today.) Anyway, I liked when Luke leaned over the table and said, "Hey, Mr. Independent, you missed a button," and fixed Noah's shirt for him. 1) Noah actually let Luke fix his shirt without flipping his shit (the world must be flat!), and 2) I like that they didn't kiss. I was praying that Luke wouldn't try to kiss him, as I've had enough of those Rejected!Kiss scenes. And it was really well done by the boys.

And Maddie! So, what...she's just gone now? That's it? No more scenes with her? Grrrr! Way to half-ass that one, ATWT.

Well, I feel completely unsatisfied. I'm usually pretty giving when it comes to the writing of the show, but right now, I think the writers are approaching the scripts with a "LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOUUUUUUU!" sort of mentality with each other. They're sitting at their computers with their eyes closed, just smacking away at the keys like five-year-olds, and then publishing whatever happens to come out that day, whether it makes sense or not. Think, writers, think!
