244: No Such Thing As Happy Endings
There is no such thing as a happy ending. I've known that for a long while.
Started when I was a little kid, my mom reading me bedtime stories of the prince who slew the dragon and saved the princess. Some crap like that. Every time I asked her what happened after the prince got the princess, she never gave me a straight answer.
No happy endings. No such thing, because after the dragon's dead, after the witch is dead, after the evil queen is dead, you've gotta live. And living . . . is really hard. Really freaking hard.
Nothing ends perfectly, because nothing ends. As long as you're alive, it doesn't end. The only end is death, and if you believe the various religions of the world, even that isn't an end. With some religions, death is just a gateway to something even worse . . . or something better. I don't put much stock in the latter, personally. No such thing as a heaven. Probably a hell, but no heaven.
