Anything to serve a function or to occupy some time...

I went to Nora and Julie at Simpson last night. Going to the shows there is starting to get odd. I know fewer and fewer people there. However, it is always nice going there and catching up with the small number of people I do know. I talked to Becca (the roommate from the Performing Arts House) and she told me she is getting married. I am, of course, very happy for her and she seems as happy as I have ever seen her but it also goes to prove my point - basically everyone I know is getting married.

The show itself was pretty interesting....and long (3 hours). It was Ingmar Bergman's adaptation of both Miss Julie and A Doll's House. I like both plays well enough and Ingmar Bergman is a fascinating guy, but I didn't like the adaptations a whole lot. Condensed and spliced together, they seemed to lack some of their potency. (Side note: Tom had Bergman's Scenes from a Marriage playing in the lobby and by the theatre entrances. If you haven't seen this movie, I suggest you check it out - stat.) And that will conclude the Scandinavian theatre/film nerd portion of the entry.

After the show, I stopped at House of Bricks. Craig had called right when I was leaving for Indianola, inviting me to come up and watch the Soapbox Prophets play, so I told him I would stop in after the play. The Soapbox Prophets were alright. By time I got there, they were close to finished and I only heard one song in its entirity. The highlight of the evening was watching this completely trashed woman attempting to dance. What can I say? I'm easily amused like that. Anyways, everyone cleared out pretty quickly once the band wrapped up. I stayed for maybe another 20 minutes or so to talk to Craig before heading home.

In other news, I am officially going to the Bright Eyes show on November 10th in Iowa City. Exciting, right? And a month later (December 7th)? Tickets to see Dave Attell and Pauly Shore...in Iowa City. I'm pretty excited to see Dave Attell. His stand-up is fantastic and Insomniac with Dave Attell was not a bad show at all.

And in closing: If you're a fan of Death Cab for Cutie, you might be interested in this.
