there are much more important things in life, but this is for the Internet

But right now, I'm utterly baffled and annoyed by XMFC fandom's tendency to write "Erik rescues Charles from ---" fics. Did they watch the same movie? This impulse seems inexplicable. Never mind the role reversal, if anything, Erik is the danger that Charles needs to be rescued from. (Incidentally, ignoring Charles' inherent threat to..everyone..by merely existing is another problem altogether I'll save for the meta..)

Also, sometimes I think I may be one of the few people who work-out to Melvyn Bragg's In Our Time podcasts, the side-effect is that since this happens at night when my working brain's in sleep-mode and my mind's wandering (if this is the world of His Dark Material, I'm quite certain my daemon should be asleep while I'm awake and vice versa), I freely associate whatever topic they're discussing with the fandom and it ends up in fic. Today's topic is Sturm und Drang (roughly translated to "storm and urge/stress") and now my mind can't keep out the idea that Shaw was from the 18th century and educated Erik according to those principles. *headdesk*

Loving a character blindly with all the unreflective affection of an eight-year-old with undeveloped morals is apparently the same as being infatuated with the same character with ten years of active fandom behind me. Halfway through writing the Aftermath-Angst fic (I write like a snail..) it suddenly became clear that I'm trying to sympathize with a self-confessed genocidal maniac...Then that thought slipped away and I'm still wrapped in a haze of Charles/Erik life-ruining OTPness though my rational self recognizes it's very cheesy and I probably need help but dreaming about watching Michael Fassbender in imaginary movies is still better than dreaming UK politicians giving imaginary parliamentary addresses, right? :\ Why are all my recent fandoms blatantly breaking my anti-RL dream rule. Out. of. Control. Subconscious. Argh.

Amusingly, there's a wonderful fic that suggests Magneto is, in fact, colour blind. This makes an odd amount of sense, including why Charles Xavier in the cartoon wears a green suit. The fic is wonderful for other reaasons, not least because it's a fic most sensitive to insensitivity and Charles and Erik being mutually defined but different. Also, flawless combination of Saturnda-morning cartoon canon/dynamics with the XMFC movie. The sequel is equally satisfactory to read. Angst and fluff and reminds me of..rather explicit what-ifs, of those cartoons..

fannish obsession, i disagree with fandom, let's ignore life, a thousand fanficcers in front of a thou, i need to stop wandering the internet, rec, xmfc
