I think there're so many mpreg!Charles fics that are still somehow much less emasculating than most of the AUs where Charles is a man is related to the fact that in the movie Erik refers himself as Frankenstein's monster, that there are parallels between Charles and Shaw in their dealings with Erik (there's a beautiful vid but I don't recall the url..), and Frankenstein by Mary Shelley has been widely interpreted, perhaps even by the author herself as a pregnancy metaphor. Fandom probably picked up on the subtleties. A thousand fanficcers on a thousand computers and all that... My complete thoughts on Charles/Erikyaoi is still going to be a post on its own because they've taken over my mind and I found myself leafing through Symposium for this OTP *facepalms*

Thor is the worst comic book movie I've watched in recent memory (and I've watched them all except Green Lantern and Ghostrider). When Kenneth Branaugh's name popped up in the end credits I was incredulous. No one in that movie has any character development. Matter inexplicable remain inexplicable and not subtle. There's a hilarious reliance on calling/using/seeing the BifrostStargate.

Marathoned blu-ray extended edition of Lord of the Rings yesterday with my brother. So many years later, it's still a superior if not the best movie using any CGI, especially blu-ray edition now allows us to appreciate the hand-made textures of the bread/basket/cloths/metal. However, I'm finally realising why there were so many Aragorn/Legolas fics once upon a time. Whether through accident or intent, their relationship does seem strangely intimate in comparison to others. Unfortunately, characterization of Faramir at Osgiliath is now not only painful due to the character assassination, but also because of his ridiculous strategy letting the orcs land that makes Denethor's assessment of his abilities reasonable. Concerning Denethor, it seems his characterization suffers because Peter Jackson's horror-film techniques doesn't seem to be able to convey ..evil..very well through the existence and presence of the orcs. Thus, he needs his villains human and Denethor, unfortunately, was the victim. It's hardly necessary, but Theoden seemed to have hijacked part of book!Denethor with his stubborn pride and depressive dignity.

Other things I noted while watching: there's still apparently a cache of LotR trivia in my head. It seems I never quite left Middle-earth or is it the other way round? However, in my mental Fantasy World Map, Middle-earth is next to pre-AtG Ancient Greece..
