Summer FUN Exhibits:
A Banner Year!

The 6th annual Summer FUN held the weekend of 12-14 July 2012 has turned out to be a record-breaking event for the exhibits area of the show.

Present were 14 different exhibitors using 36 cases to display to the viewing public their unique collections. Six of the eight exhibit classifications had entries, they were: U.S. Coins, Paper Money, Errors, Medals-Orders-Decorations-Tokens, Miscellaneous and Young Numismatists (YN). The new classification of Clubs (open to all FUN member clubs) did not have an exhibit nor did Foreign Coins.

Foot traffic through the exhibit area was well above average and at times quite congested. The general public was provided some very education exhibits to view.

The YN category was represented by an 18 year old displaying “Four Different Ways of Collecting Morgan Dollars”, a twelve year old first time exhibitor showcased a collection titled “The Coins of My Life” and another first time exhibitor, 14 years old, showed the public “Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell”.

Paper Money had exhibits of: “My Hometown Notes, Newport KY”. Now, how may people have a complete set of obsolete bank notes from their hometown? Also exhibited were “Electricity: 1896 Style”, and “Depression Scrip of Horicon, WI”.

In the Errors class was presented: “Half Dollar Die Clashes”

We had two displays in the Medals, Orders, Decorations, and Tokens class. The first one titled “Orange County in WWI” displaying a medal produced by Orange County, Florida for it’s WWI veterans. The second was titled “Unusual ‘Good For’ Tokens” which displayed odd shaped, sized, denomination and subject “Good For” tokens.

US Coins had two first time exhibitors displaying “Alloy’s of Lincolns” which explained the different alloys used in making Lincoln cents from 1909 to the present and four cases showing us the “Coins of the U.S. Philippines”.

In Miscellaneous came a display of seven cases holding “FUN Exonumia”, 2 cases of “Art Masterpieces, Minted in Silver” followed by a two-piece display of “Folk Art”.

As explained on the FUN Topics web site exhibiting at Summer FUN is non-competitive, informal and is good practice for the competitive exhibiting done in January or each year.

On behalf of the FUN Board, the viewing public, and myself I extend a very much-appreciated THANK YOU to all 14 of this years educational exhibitors. We are looking forward with much anticipation to your return in January 2013 in the competitive exhibits.

Now that Summer FUN is over the FUN Machine is busily preparing for our next convention in January. The theme for the January show is a salute to both the Buffalo Nickel and the creation and carving of the Hobo Nickel. We are calling it Buffalo's & Hobo's - A Centennial Celebration. Be sure to save the date and dust off your black derby hat or Indian headdress and plan to join FUN in the celebration. We really want to see you there!! For more details and additional information about the show go to FUN Topics.
