What is the right grade to seek for notes? Posted on March 25, 2014 by NMN
Auction action is one method of gauging the market. Currently it appears that while great notes are up, really good notes seem a bit soft, especially in circulated collector grades.
If you want nice looking notes, I recommend not putting away anything in less than Very Fine 25 condition. Very Fine 20 notes with a bit of soiling or minor imperfections will be harder to find buyers for in the event you want to sell and improve your notes, or just for resale consideration.Continue Reading At The Source

Australia’s First 10-Shilling Note By Dr. Kerry Rodgers, Bank Note Reporter
It was a historic occasion for the new nation but is also for Australian bank note collectors a century down the track. Six British colonies had federated on Jan. 1, 1901, to form the Commonwealth of Australia. It took the new federal government 10 years to introduce a national bronze and silver coinage. It took another two years to deliver the new nation its own distinctive paper currency. Continue Reading At The Source

Haiti Notes Generally Overlooked By Neil Shafer, Bank Note Reporter
Many countries around the world enjoy moments of real popularity either in waves or a steadier collector interest over a longer period of time. It seems to me, though, that Haitian issues, even those before the first 1919 issue, have been almost completely overlooked by many collectors. True, the rarities will engender great interest, but in general the various other issues do not get much collector attention.Continue Reading at the source

Israel
IBNS Journal article offers insights about 1955 1-lira notes of IsraelOnce the nation of Israel was established as a sovereign nation in 1948, discussions began about organizing a central bank, according to Shlomo Tepper. However, circumstances delayed the discussion phase from developing into a reality, so in the meantime the nation signed a contract with the Anglo-Palestine Bank to issue bank notes. That contractual arrangement continued until 1950, when the Israel government incorporated Bank Leumi Le-Israel (National Bank of Israel), which took over the job of creating the second series of notes in 1952, according to Tepper.

Banknotes of Sweden In Sweden, cash is king no more STOCKHOLM (AP) Sweden was the first European country to introduce bank notes in 1661. Now it's come farther than most on the path toward getting rid of them. "I can't see why we should be printing bank notes at all anymore," says Bjoern Ulvaeus, former member of 1970's pop group ABBA, and a vocal proponent for a world without cash. Continue Reading
Yahoo Finance The first European Banknotes first appeared in China around 1000 AD. They did not emerge in Europe until 600 years later, in Sweden. As early as the beginning of the 17th century in the Netherlands, the Bank of Amsterdam began issuing bills to merchants in exchange for the deposit of cash, thus enabling them to trade amongst themselves without having to physically exchange their gold or silver coins, which remained at the bank. However, these bills were not yet banknotes in the strict sense of the word in that they had no impact on the amount of money in circulation: they were simple substitutes for the deposited coins.
In Europe, the first real banknote was issued in 1661 by Johan Palmstruch, the founder of Stockholms Banco, a private bank under State charter. Continue Reading at

Great Britain Opts for Change to Polymer Notes By Kerry Rodgers, Bank Note Reporter
In brief the bank has made explicit what they wish to achieve in the depiction of characters on bank notes. Secondly, they stressed that in future the selection of these characters will draw, “more heavily on input from the public and on independent experts” and ensure, “that decision-makers consider the equality implications of choices.” Given that the characters for the next two new notes have already been selected as Sir Winston Churchill for the £5 note (2016) and Jane Austen on the £10 note (2017), the new process and principles will be used for all notes to follow the Austen £10.
