Click to viewIn this episode of Coin Tales from the Bourse Floor FUN Convention TV spoke with Mr. Mark Lighterman of the Casino Chip & Gaming Token Collectors Club about his collection of casino chips and gaming tokens. Mark started collecting coins & exonumia in 1972. He is a charter member of the Casino Chips & Gaming Tokens Collectors Club and a founding member and past president of the Florida Casino Chips and Gaming Tokens Collectors Club.
Mr. Lighterman has documented the history of gambling in Florida from the 1830s and has cataloged over 1,500 chips used in Florida gambling establishments. He authored A Guide to Florida's Gaming Chips, Checks and Tokens and several other books on gaming chips and tokens.
Awards and Achievements
Medals of Merit Awarded to Lightermans
The American Numismatic Association presented 53 competitive exhibit awards at the 2012 World’s Fair of Money in Philadelphia. Mark Lighterman received the Joseph E. Boling Award for Judging Excellence. Class 6: Casino Chips and Gaming Tokens
Mark was inducted into the Casino Chips and Gaming Tokens Collectors Club’s Hall of Fame in 2009. The site has an interesting bio on Mr. Lighterman

Collecting casino chips is a rich area of numismatics that goes beyond just picking up chips. Collectors take in everything that has to do with casinos -- matchbooks, dice, sugar packets and much, much more. If it has anything to do with a casino, the members of the Casino Chip and Gaming Token Collectors Club probably collect it. Here, president Douglas Smith gives a short overview of the club and its activities.
