Sometimes we hoard our emotions into one person, or thing or idea, and leave little room for intelligence. We were bestowed from birth a curious mind with the ability to question and the ability to solve. Some people mangle and fold away that actuality of logic. We all grasp the basics, if its hot don’t touch, if its sharp don’t grab, but when it gets complicated, and one most think, that’s when the concept of existence is skewed and religion begins.
Faith can be a beautiful thing. To help others, to help society, feed the homeless, teach the children, peace on earth and good will to men, all with hopes of a life after death filled with golden streets, or total peace. What is faith? It is a belief not based on proof.
I look at creeds and I’m confused. The bible, for instance, has 101 obvious contradictions to my knowledge that are not the product of mistranslation. The bible is said to have been written under the influence of God, itself, and it shall not be altered, added to, or removed from. Surely God who is all seeing, all knowing, all powerful and transcends reality, space and time, would not let the authors contradict each other even though the books were written at different times. Then there are those “Don’t take it literally, it’s a guide.” Then the book shouldn’t proclaim it is the exact word of God.
Some ministers come up with a concept and pick and choose a scripture… then apply it to their manifesto, completely out of concept. Did you know I can justify Abortion or Gay marriage?? Just by selecting a few scriptures here and there and putting them together.
Based on fact, history, and logic, I cannot accept the Bible or any other Creed as fact. Creeds are interesting and teach valuable moral lessons that where taught prior to the creation of organized religion. I accept what I can see, what I can feel, taste, and hear.
Sometimes I wonder though, if I had grown up in any religious household or environment, if I would have been brainwashed?
By no means am I atheist or agnostic because I’m a freethinker. My idea of God is based on a theory that is based on current facts, science, history, sight, and logic. Everything I acknowledge was created from my own mind and not a set of standards. My morals derive from society and cause and effect.
