What do eighteen-year-old boys subsist on?

Well, the brother is off to Forn Parts again next week, and won't be back until at least the New Year. After some problems meeting up (he was waiting at Grays Inn Road, while I'd just arrived at Whitehall), we had a pleasant drink together, I showed him pictures of the wedding last week, and some presents were exchanged, notably the new Naomi Novik and one of the largest cucumbers I've ever seen. He also commissioned a sock-monkey Osama bin Laden. this time, I remembered to give him a hug when we said goodbye, rather than just shaking his hand, which seemed to please him. I hope he'll be OK.

The nephew is starting art college in early October, and will have a couple of weeks of pretty much full-time classes before reverting to being a standard art student with one class a week. Since the college is so close to me, I will be putting him up for the two weeks so he will get in on time. According to his father he needs only food and broadband, but I suppose we has been reared to expect a fridge that doesn't have things growing in it, so today I'll have to start cleaning the place up a bit. His dad gave me a worryingly large amount of money to pay for his keep - enough to pay for a really huge amount of kebabs, which are apparently his favourite food.

food, family
