Pirates and Science
Er, Ahoy Maties! Apparently today is be Talk Like a Pirate Day. Arrrgh!
Personally, the nearest thing I'll get to the high seas today will be listening to the excellent readings of Doctor Syn on BBC Radio 7 this morning, since I'm planning to spend the day with my microscope. Thanks to a visit from the Leica rep yesterday, I now know how to use the software that came with the blasted thing, and the 220 paint samples I've processed will all need to be photographed. The polarising microscope is a whole different thing, and will require a week's course to operate.
This evening, I'm hoping to meet up with the brother for a farewell drink before he heads off to Afghanistan. I'm burning some CDs for him to make him feel homesick, including a collectin of settings of Kipling's songs from Puck of Pook's Hill and one of Songs about BEER (to remind him of what he is missing). Perhaps we can drink some rum.
