I seem to always be nattering on about the weather, but this is England, so there you go. We've had two days of pretty hot weather and now it's gone back to being pleasantly cool. I don't take heat too well, so spent a lot of time lying on the sofa sweating feebly.

I was the g-d's birthday yesterday. While she was out at dinner with her female mates on Saturday night, I beavered around making pancake batter and a rather nice lemon cake, so that we had a nice birthday breakfast of blueberry pancakes and nectarines, which segued pleasantly into lunch with the boyfriend (gazpacho, tuna pasta for him, cake and ice cream). Then they headed off to her birthday treat (a trip on the London Eye), while I got down to some serious sweating and flopping about. They did ask me along on the London Eye, but I'm very glad I didn't accept, since we would have had to queue for at least half-an-hour in the extremely hot sun. She has promised me many photographs of the London skyline and probably also of the boyfriend cowering on the floor in the middle of the pod, since the trip is part of her plan to cure him of his fear of flying so that they can go on a proper holiday. Previously, she had dragged him up the Monument, and the next step is to go on a very short plane flight (to Dublin).

Today, I suppose I'll continue with the fruitless search for jobs to apply for, and maybe do some washing. I may also head off to the British Library to listen to some free music. As part of their current exhibition of Jewish, Christian and Muslim holy books, they are running a series of free concerts in the piazza in front of the library, at 12.45 and 17.30. This evening's is qawwali. There is also a late-night concert on Thursday, featuring Francoise Atlan, a very interesting-sounding singer from Morocco. Tickets for the evening do are free, but my already have been all booked out, but I will try for some.
