Some Torchwood-Prompted Rumination

Apr 15, 2008 02:02

Hey.

I'm still in Season 1, and tonight I saw the one in which the ghost of a TW hanger-on follows Gwen around to witness (and provide some clues to help along) the investigation of his demise. Torchwood is neither the first or last TV show to use this premise, but it's done so effectively here. I'm sure just about every science-fiction fan could identify in some measure to Eugene and his life.

In light of this character's backstory, I have to ask:

* Does ANYBODY ever really live up to their "promise" as a child?
* Does ANYBODY really get it right? Get the life they feel they deserve?
* Does ANYBODY know what they mean to the people around them?
* Is there such a thing as a "good life"?

(*Stares down at the keyboard*)

It's too late in the nighttime and too darned late for me to get any use out of this. I guess I've been in this hole so long, light itself looks peculiar and forbidding.
