Effective today, AEthelmearc is a heavy-default rapier kingdom. This means that the starting and primary weapons form is heavy rapier. Light rapier has become an additional form one can choose to add, instead of a form one mush start with.

St. Swithin's Bog Investiture (as opposed to Bog 3-Day or Pilgrimage to St. Swithin's, all of which are functionally the same event from previous years) was last weekend, and was host to the 10th annual 7 Pearls rapier tournament. Looking at the pics we took from the Zoo demo, I am frankly embarrassed at my rapier form. It is completely unacceptable, and I will be starting over, as it were, and concentrating mainly on footwork for a few months.

Practice consisted of fredeburg, _subdivisions_, cr_alexander, and myself. James (a friend of Chris and Sasha who recently started learning to fence) came by but could only do some drills and such, as I failed to bring loaner stuff. Sorry 'bout that ( Read more... )

fredeburg and I went down to Blackstone Raids on Friday. ( Here is a short version of the event from my p.o.v. )

My rapier blade is a Del Tin, and it is of superior craftsmanship. If you have never seen pictures of it, here is a gallery of the works on display in their location in Maniago, Italy. Here is a link to their sharp swords, ranging from B.C.-18th Century.
